Prior to joining GARDP Mary-Ann worked as a Clinical Trial Manager on a large, cluster randomised clinical in Mozambique enrolling 28 000 participants in a district using a Mass Drug Administration approach for drug administration.

She entered the field of clinical research in 1999 when she joined the Wits Health Consortium in Johannesburg, South Africa.  It was in this role where she provided secretariat support services to the Health Research Ethics Committee at the University of the Witwatersrand, and assessed and introduced the institution’s research sites to the Pharmaceutical Industry, that she discovered her passion for research.

Over the next 20 years she occupied several senior management positions in multinational Clinical Research Organizations and a health development company.  She has overseen trials and conducted clinical research related training in South Africa, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Uganda, Rwanda, Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania and Malawi.

Mary-Ann Richardson has a BA HSS in Health Ethics and Law.
