Als vor etwas mehr als einem Jahrhundert die Syphilis die erste Krankheit war, die mit Antibiotika behandelt werden konnte, begann ein goldenes Zeitalter der modernen Medizin. Heute sind diese fast vergessenen sexuell übertragbaren Krankheiten wieder auf dem Vormarsch. Weltweit – auch in der Schweiz – nimmt die Zahl der Syphilis- und Gonorrhö-Fälle stark zu. Während die Syphilis weiter gut mit Penicillin behandelt werden kann, hat die Gonorrhö bisher noch alle Antibiotika besiegt, und es ist wieder so weit: Multiresistente Infektionen breiten sich von Südostasien her global aus.
