Neonatal sepsis: the new threat posed by superbugs

Kamala Thiagarajan investigates the crisis of neonatal sepsis around the world, and the solutions that could stop it. 

As part of her investigation, she featured a global study carried out by GARDP and partners on neonatal sepsis and interviewed Sally Ellis, project leader of the children’s antibiotics programme at GARDP.  

 “The biggest challenge in dealing with sepsis in infants is to know which organism is causing the infection — it’s not always possible to isolate in some cases, or to even determine whether they have an infection,” said Ellis.
