Scientific affairs and REVIVE.
Antibiotic innovation is being abandoned and vital expertise is being lost.

Drug resistance is now beginning to outpace antibiotic development as the pipeline for new antibiotics continues to dry up. Most antibiotics we rely on today are over 40 years old. Over time, the discovery and development of antibiotics has been deprioritized, with many pharmaceutical companies withdrawing from the field altogether.
The rise and spread of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and the abandonment of antibiotic research and development (R&D) by many companies and academic laboratories, makes the threat posed by this global health crisis even more acute. In addition to this, it has also contributed to the loss of critical scientific expertise, institutional memory and knowledge – crucial ingredients needed for antibiotic discovery and R&D.The world needs a new arsenal of antibiotic treatments with never-before-seen modes of action and other novel tactics.

Connecting the antimicrobial R&D community through REVIVE.
In 2018, GARDP launched REVIVE to help preserve critical AMR-related expertise and experience. REVIVE ensures that vital knowledge and experience is retained and that the antimicrobial R&D community has the support it needs to connect, share and acquire information.
Today, REVIVE’s activities support antimicrobial researchers of different backgrounds – from academia and pharmaceutical, to industrial and medical – and at different points in their careers and worldwide. The activities also connect AMR researchers with established and retired antibiotic researchers and developers, to facilitate learning and knowledge exchange.
Programme goals

GARDP aims to demonstrate how its unique antibiotic R&D partnership model can help to address the global AMR public health failure by enabling the right antibiotic treatments to be developed and made available to people who need them.
The REVIVE programme has therefore set the following goals:

Goal 1
Facilitate learning and knowledge exchange.
Goal 2
Connect the antimicrobial R&D and AMR communities.
Goal 3
Share information and resources.
Our REVIVE projects
Our work in REVIVE has a strong educational focus to gather, disseminate and increase knowledge in the field of antimicrobial R&D. Collaboration is an essential aspect of our activities and we are building a network of world-class experts from around the world who help us develop highly relevant and up-to-date content, as well as provide advice to our audience through our live webinars. To ensure that our activities are freely and easily available and known to researchers worldwide, we collaborate with various scientific societies and other partner organizations who help us to disseminate our materials and also get in touch with local experts.
